"The No.1 Street in Ancient West Shu" - Jinli Street 23rd July 2009, 23:27

Being one of the most long-established commercial streets, Jinli is national-wide famous even back in the Three Kingdoms times. The street is a true must-see local site when you come to Chengdu on your tour of China, the name of this street has become the alternative name of the city.

The street shows a refined collection of the essence of the local culture. The teahouse, the tavern, the inn, the stage and all those local snacks, handicrafts, represent the unique beauty of Sanguo culture and Sichuan customs.

When you come to Jinli during your China tours, you may find that there are not any of those shinning malls and stores here, Jinli Street offers the native, down-to-earth stuff. What the shops sell are chopsticks, teas, lanterns and other characteristic local products.

Hot in China - summer time in Wuhan 16th July 2009, 21:54

Most of the tourists that come to Wuhan during their China tours may find that this place is too hot. Yes and indeed, Wuhan is considered as one of the three hottest cities in China. The summer here could last for more than 4 months and the temperature can easily get up to 35 °C (95 °F). Each year, there are around 2 weeks during which the hot temperature gets more than 40 °C (104 °F).

The hotness is one thing, the humidity is another thing. There are several large lakes and rivers in the city, the water evaporates under the sunshine, making large area of the city a giant steaming house.

One benefit of being near to the river is that you can always enjoy yourself in the water, especially during hot days. Frolic in the water, or join groups of people and feast on the local famous seafood dishes seem like the typical scene of local night view in Wuhan.

A few glances of Pingyao ancient town 18th June 2009, 21:29

So I went to the PingYao ancient town during China vacations. I arrived there at dusk with my clothes covered with a layer of dust. Standing by the side of the ancient city gate, I instantly felt calm, albeit quite tired.

The streets and valleys are not orderly set like the roads of those large modern cities that i visited during my China tours - more like Hutongs in Beijing, inclines to turn approximately every 100 meters. It may seem small and unremarkable now, but back in the old time, this was a "metropolis" with all the banks, theaters, stores took root all over the area.

Strolling on the street of the inner city street which dates back to the 18th century was surely an extraordinary experience. No wonder the tourists all walked in a slow pace and stopped to take a good look at this serene city from time to time.

But I didn't got much time to linger more there and admire the beauty of this city since I gotta hit the road the next morning and continue my visit to China, so all I took were a few glances and a couple shots of this city, which are enough to leave me a deep impression.

Spend the night in the traditional residence when in Beijing 11th June 2009, 21:42

Siheyuan is perhaps the most traditional form of residence in Beijing, and also a cultural symbol of this city.

Many foreign travellers on China tours showed great interest in Siheyuan and they chose it for their accommodation place during their Beijing vacations.

However, as a traveler, people need to know about some tips and background infos about it. It's where to spend the night after a long day's trip after all.

Most of the siheyuan tours include some folk activities, making it possible for the tourists to take a closer look into the local culture. These activities include making Chinese dumplings, learning to play traditional instruments and mahjong, learning calligraphy and etc.

Although when you hear about you are going to stay in courtyard houses surrounded by deep and narrow Hutongs for the night on your China vacations , you may worry about the bathing or the accommodations problems. Well, it's not that splendid as a 5-star hotel room, but I’m sure siheyuan will meet all you normal needs for accommodation. Then again, you should probably find more detailed information about it when you planning your tours to China .
